Mariah Carey Refuses To Give Jennifer Lopez Standing Ovation On American Idol

Mariah Carey, she could not be moved. When former judge Jennifer Lopez delivered an energetic 10-minute performance on the season finale of American Idol on May 16, Carey kept a fixed smile on her face but refused to join the other three judges in giving Lopez a standing ovation. She played with the streamers and grinned straight ahead instead.

Earlier in the night, Carey took to the stage with a pre-recorded medley of her greatest hits, including “Vision of Love,” “Make It Happen,” “My All,” “Hero,” “We Belong Together,” and “#Beautiful,” but it was Lopez’s dance-infused performance that had the audience pumped.

To add fuel to the fire, rumors that the judge had lip-synched her performance began to circulate online shortly after her stiff performance in a feathered, beaded white gown.

“There are two type of artists Vocalists & performers,” one fan tweeted. “If you’re a vocalist, you should NOT lip-sync. Especially on the caliber of Mariah.”

Lopez’s own performance, on the other hand, was a rousing rendition of her dance hit “Live It Up,” which involved plenty of high-energy moves and an appearance by rapper Pitbull.

The pair have a history of controversy together that dates back to a time when Carey’s ex-husband Tommy Mottola gave material she’d selected for her Glitter soundtrack to Lopez after she’d left his label. Lopez, 43, was previously a judge on the hit Fox singing competition, and has been rumored to be returning to the judge’s table in an upcoming season as the Fox series struggles in the ratings.

“I don’t know!” Lopez said in response to TV Guide’s question about whether or not she was looking to return. “When I say, ‘I don’t know,’ people think, ‘Oh, she’s playing a game.’ I’m not. If it became really real where I had to make a decision, I would have to sit down and really weigh out the options of what my life looks like in the next year to see if I would sign.”

“Because it does take up a lot of time, and I do have a lot of other things going on that I’m super excited about,” she continued. “So we’ll see.”

If Lopez does decide to return, however, there’s one current judge who would be more than happy for the change.

“All dem #1s but Jlo phone ringin?” Nicki Minaj tweeted on May 2, in a nod to Carey’s diss that the “Roman Holiday” rapper had never had a No.1 Billboard hit. “I guess having a personality, being a secure woman, and giving genuine critique still trumps that.”

Nicki Minaj Lashes Out At Mariah Carey On American Idol

Nicki Minaj derailed the “American Idol” auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina Tuesday, after swearing at Mariah Carey and threatening, “I’m gonna knock you out” … sources tell TMZ.

In the footage, obtained by TMZ, Nicki is clearly furious … shouting, “I told them I’m not f*ckin’ putting up with her f**kin’ highness over there.”

Sources say Nicki later threatened to “knock out” Mariah … but she said it before the video starts.

It all went down while the two were sitting at the judge’s table … with Keith Urban sitting in between them and Randy Jackson sitting on the far end, next to Mariah.

We’re told the whole thing exploded over a disagreement over a contestant’s performance.

Listen closely as you play the video … you’ll hear

Nicki Get this s**t in self control. Get in control. Get in control.
Randy Settle down, settle down.
Nicki Don’t lose your head. Don’t lose your head (inaudible). Don’t tell me I’m a gangster.
Nicki (inaudible) every 5 minutes. So every time you patronize me, I’m-ma take it back, and if you’ve got a f**king problem, handle it.
Nicki I told them I’m not f**kin’ putting up with her f**king highness over there. Figure it the f**k out. Figure it out.
Nicki I’m not gonna sit here every f**king minute to have you come down and harass me every minute everyday.

Mariah is talking back at Nicki but it’s hard to hear what she’s saying.

According to our friends at MouthToEars.com, producers ended the auditions for the day so the two judges could cool down. We’ve confirmed that happened.

Big wigs on the show seem uncharacteristically upset by the blow up. It seems producers are worried about Mariah and Nicki co-existing for the long haul. [TMZ]

Nicki Minaj Comes To Reality T.V.

After dominating the Hip-Hop & Pop music charts, launching her own fragrance and scoring a $12 million judging gig on “American Idol” … what else could Nicki Minaj possibly take on next?

Reality TV, apparently.

According to an exclusive report, the rapstress is working on a brand new reality show with the E! network — who is famous for its catalog of reality shows, most notably “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (and its many spin-offs).

However, don’t expect a full-fledge, 10+ episode reality series from Nicki.

“The plan is to do specials with her, not a whole series,” a source close to the situation revealed, adding that E! will air three Minaj specials in the fall, and filming for the specials has already begun.

First Look At New American Idol Judges

FOX announced Sunday that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban were officially joining Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson as judges on American Idol. Shortly after that announcement, the show’s longtime host Ryan Seacrest shared the first shot of the brand-new foursome at the judges’ table via Facebook. “After some musical chairs, here’s how the new American Idol judges will be seated,” Seacrest, 37, wrote beneath a photo of Carey, 42, Urban, 44, Minaj, 29 and Jackson, 56, sitting down together (with Seacrest standing above) in midtown NYC.

“With the exciting addition of Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, alongside Randy Jackson, American Idol’s star power has never been so great,” executive producer Simon Fuller said in a statement. With the addition of these new judges, this promises to be a very entertaining season!
